All members over 30 years old, yet no one in this top girl group has got married
A famous girl group seems to be choosing “career” and “activities” instead of marriage and childbirth, drawing attention.
In Korea, even extremely famous stars may choose a life of marriage, childbirth, and childrearing once they reach the age of early to mid-thirties. However, despite entering the age of mid-thirties, there is a group that still occupies the top spot by meeting fans on stage and through the screen instead of getting married.
This girl group is none other than SNSD, also known as Girls’ Generation, who debuted in the music industry on August 5th, 2007 with “Into the New World”. In 2009, they released the super mega hits “Gee” and “Genie”, establishing themselves as a representative girl group.
Girls’ Generation, who rose to stardom with a lot of attention since their debut, maintained team activities while carrying out individual activities. In 2017, they ranked first in Billboard’s “Top 10 Best KPOP Girl Groups of the Past 10 Years” category, earning the nickname of KPOP Queen.
Thanks to their long-time activities, members of Girls’ Generation are already in their mid and early 30s. In particular, Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon and Yuri, born in 1989, turned 35 this year in Korean age. Meanwhile, Yoona and Sooyoung, who was born in 1990, turned 34, and the youngest, Seohyun, also turned 33.
However, unlike Wonder Girls, who were active around the same time, Girls’ Generation is still delivering news of their activities rather than getting married.
In response, fans of the groups expressed reactions such as, “I hope they will remain as Girls’ Generation forever”, at the same time showing infinite support for the future the girl group will build. However, some netizens think that “this alone proves Korea’s alarmingly low birth rates.”
