With SBS’s hit drama Agent Kim Reactivated continuing its remarkable ratings streak, fans are already calling for a second season. However, the broadcaster says no official discussions have begun at least for now.
On July 6, an SBS representative responded to reports about a potential Season 2, acknowledging the growing anticipation surrounding the drama while stopping short of confirming any plans.
Speaking to Korean media, an SBS official clarified the network’s current position. “There have not been any official discussions regarding Agent Kim Reactivated Season 2 yet.” The representative added, however, that the series has the potential to continue. “That said, it’s definitely a drama that could work as a seasonal series, which is likely why viewers have such high expectations.” While no sequel has been confirmed, the statement leaves the door open for future developments if the drama maintains its popularity.
Premiering with a 9.5% nationwide rating on June 26, Agent Kim Reactivated has experienced explosive week-to-week growth. By its fourth episode, the action drama had climbed to an impressive 21.6% nationwide viewership, according to Nielsen Korea. The achievement makes it the third highest-rated SBS Friday-Saturday drama in network history, behind only: The Penthouse 2 (29.2%) and The Fiery Priest (22.0%). The milestone is particularly noteworthy at a time when streaming platforms have intensified competition for television audiences.
Despite its exceptional performance, Agent Kim Reactivated is scheduled to run for only 10 episodes. Its relatively short format has prompted many viewers to express disappointment and call for another season. Online discussions about a potential continuation have grown rapidly as the series continues to dominate ratings.
Lead actor So Ji Sub has also publicly shared his desire to revisit the role. During SBS’s drama media event, “SBS DRAMA: NEXT EPISODE,” held last month, the veteran actor revealed that he would prefer a second season over winning awards. “Honestly, I’m not particularly interested in awards,” So Ji Sub said. “I’d be happier if the drama continued as a seasonal series.” His comments have fueled further speculation that both the cast and viewers are interested in seeing Manager Kim return.
Although SBS has emphasized that no official Season 2 plans are currently in development, the network’s acknowledgment that the series is well-suited to a seasonal format has given fans reason to remain optimistic.
With record-breaking ratings, enthusiastic audience support, and the lead actor openly expressing interest in continuing the story, Agent Kim Reactivated appears to have all the ingredients for a future sequel should SBS decide to move forward.
