The 2nd mini album “Girls” of the Metaverse group aespa draws praise from American magazines Rolling Stone and Billboard.
Rolling Stone, a prestigious American music media outlet, recently published an article introducing aespa’s second mini-album “Girls”, which was released on July 8. Rolling Stone gave “Girls” great reviews and explained while the global interest in aespa is high.
Rolling Stone said, “It’s hard to believe that ‘Girls’ is only aespa’s second album. It has everything one would expect from an aespa album, including heavy synth beats, strong vocals, and visuals that don’t leave you a second to blink.”
Rolling Stone continued, “aespa has generated much buzz since their debut with a unique concept featuring a virtual world, villains, and avatar members, but the root is still music. If you had any doubts about aespa before, now it’s time to jump into the rabbit hole heading into Kwangya to realize that the girls have succeeded.”
In addition, Billboard also reported on aespa’s first appearance of a K-pop girl group at the ‘GMA 2022 Summer Concert Series’ in the US on July 8th (local time), where they showed an exciting performance. Billboard wrote, “On this day, the venue was filled with aespa’s fanbase MY. In between rehearsals before the performance, several audiences revealed they traveled from Canada, Argentina and other places to make it to the show. aespa kept the audience’s energy high with explosive performances of ‘Girls’ and ‘Illusion’ from the new mini album, as well as fan-favorite track ‘Next Level.’”
In addition, aespa recently said in an interview with Billboard, “‘Girls’ is the most powerful song we’ve released, including ‘Black Mamba’ and ‘Next Level.’ So we hope many people look forward to it.”
aespa expressed their gratitude to fans, saying, “We were able to feel the energy of MYs which was much bigger than we expected. They screamed the members’ names every time we talked, so that was very new and exciting to us. We are grateful to realize that the fans are always cheering for us.”
aespa recently became the first K-pop girl group to perform at the ‘GMA Summer Concert Series’, an outdoor concert hosted by ABC Channel’s famous morning talk show ‘Good Morning America’ every summer. aespa drew the attention of local music fans with their electrifying performances.
During their stay in the US, aespa also delivered a speech in English in the opening section of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development held at the United Nations General Assembly in New York under the theme of ‘Next Generation to the Next Level’. The group once again proved their global popularity and influence.
Moreover, aespa’s second mini-album “Girls” surpassed a total of 1.61 million copies in pre-orders, setting the record for the highest pre-orders recorded by any K-pop girl group in history. Expectations for aespa to break new records in the first-week sales are high.
