aespa is truly a “descendant of Red Velvet”: Winter takes the wrong trophy which belongs to ENHYPEN!
From Red Velvet to aespa, SM Entertainment’s groups have a tradition of grabbing the wrong trophy.
The Asia Artist Awards 2021 (AAA 2021) took place at KBS Arena in Deungchon-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of December 2nd. This year’s awards ceremony featured groups such as SEVENTEEN, aespa, The Boyz, Stray Kids, NU’EST, ASTRO, PENTAGON, Golden Child, Brave Girls, MOMOLAND, Weeekly, STAYC, ITZY, EVERGLOW…
With the appearance of many popular rookie groups over the past year, the Rookie of the Year category particularly drew Kpop fans’ attention. Two outstanding names that won this award were aespa and ENHYPEN.
A minor incident occurred to Winter on her way to receive the award for the first time. She walked over to the podium to receive the group’s trophy. However, Winter soon realized that she had mistakenly grabbed the trophy of ENHYPEN. The female idol quickly returned to her original position and took back the group’s trophy. Winter then fled, much to the astonishment of the members, because she was too embarrassed.
The fact that Winter took the wrong trophy reminded fans of a similar incident that occurred with Red Velvet, another SM group. Red Velvet even experienced this incident twice. Specifically, at the 2018 Korea Popular Music Awards, Red Velvet and TWICE were named to receive the Bonsang award. However, after making the speech, the Red Velvet members immediately left the stage and forgot to bring their trophy.Immediately after realizing, the girls returned to the stage to claim their trophy, but ironically, they mistakenly took the TWICE trophy.
