aespa is once again dominating K-pop discussions after reports revealed that G-DRAGON will feature on the group’s upcoming pre-release track “WDA (Whole Different Animal).”

According to a recently published KBS broadcast review list, the song scheduled for release on May 12 – includes G-DRAGON as a featured artist. The news immediately exploded across social media, with fans calling it one of the most unexpected and high-profile collaborations of 2026 so far.

The pairing is especially significant because aespa has become the first fourth-generation girl group to officially collaborate musically with G-DRAGON, often referred to as one of K-pop’s most influential icons. The collaboration brings together two generations of trend-defining artists: a legendary figure who shaped modern K-pop and one of the industry’s most globally dominant current girl groups.

The connection between G-DRAGON and aespa has been building steadily throughout the past year. Earlier in 2025, aespa member Karina starred opposite G-DRAGON in the music video for his track Too Bad, creating viral buzz thanks to their striking chemistry and visuals. Fans were particularly fascinated by the fact that both artists were born in the Year of the Dragon despite being separated by an entire zodiac cycle.

Later, aespa also appeared on G-DRAGON’s variety program Good Day, where the members jokingly won an opportunity to collaborate with him through a game segment. At the time, many viewers considered it playful fan service but the collaboration has now become reality.

The two acts have also publicly supported one another multiple times through concerts and events, further fueling fan excitement ahead of the release.

Industry watchers are already predicting that WDA could become one of the biggest digital hits of the year once it drops.

aespa is preparing for a major return with their second full-length album, LEMONADE.

The album is scheduled for release on May 29 at 1 PM KST, while WDA will arrive earlier as a pre-release track on May 12. The project marks aespa’s first studio album in nearly two years since Armageddon.

The new release is expected to showcase a more mature musical direction while expanding beyond the heavy futuristic electronic sound that previously defined much of aespa’s identity.

However, the group’s visual concept has become the biggest talking point online.

From the first teaser images alone, aespa stunned fans with an ultra-dark, surreal, and cinematic aesthetic unlike anything currently dominating K-pop. If Armageddon leaned heavily into post-apocalyptic cyberpunk imagery, LEMONADE appears to push even further into dystopian fantasy and psychological horror territory.

The members no longer resemble traditional idols in the teasers. Instead, they appear as supernatural beings from alternate dimensions, surrounded by hybrid mythological creatures and eerie fantasy symbolism.

Karina and Winter were seen alongside a black winged horse-like creature with a scorpion tail, while Giselle shocked fans with reptilian-inspired styling attached to a biomechanical scorpion tail. Ningning also embraced the album’s unsettling fantasy visuals, completing what many fans describe as aespa’s most extreme concept to date.

International fans have already begun developing theories that the album draws inspiration from the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” from the Book of Revelation. The imagery associated with conquest, war, famine, and death appears throughout the teasers, leading many to speculate that aespa is building a narrative about destruction becoming the beginning of a new era following Armageddon.

SM Entertainment further intensified anticipation with the release of the cinematic trailer LEMONADE Complæxity, which quickly sparked massive theory discussions across TikTok and X. Many viewers compared the trailer to a high-fashion psychological sci-fi film rather than a typical K-pop comeback teaser.

As the teaser images continue spreading rapidly online, aespa is once again proving why the group remains one of the most visually ambitious and concept-driven acts in modern K-pop. Combined with the surprise collaboration featuring G-DRAGON, expectations for this comeback have reached an entirely new level.
