Many actors have been active as cast members of various entertainment programs, but is it a good thing?
Jeon So-min joined SBS’s entertainment program “Running Man” in 2017 and showcased her excellent entertainment skills. Through “Running Man”, the actress perfectly adapted to the show although it was her first regular cast challenge, and made viewers laugh. Thanks to this, Jeon So-min became more popular and even attracted more Korean and international fans.
However, unlike her rapidly rising popularity as a blue chip in the entertainment industry, Jeon So-min became rarely seen on the screen as an actress, which is her main job. Drawing attention with her acting performance in the 2022 drama “Show Window: The Queen’s House”, Jeon So-min recently announced her withdrawal from “Running Man” because “the actress needed to spend time recharging, so that she could show better performances, such as acting, in the future”.
Lee Kwang-soo also faced a similar situation. He was introduced in the very first cast lineup of “Running Man” in 2010 and appeared on the show for 11 years until 2021. Making his debut in 2008 through the sitcom “Here He Comes”. He starred in the 2009 series “High Kick Through the Roof” but did not gain any attention at that time. However, after joining “Running Man”, Lee Kwang-soo’s appearance in “High Kick” began to be re-examined and his “mosquito dance” even became viral. Thanks to his entertainment performance, Lee Kwang-soo successfully made his face known to the public.
Then what is the negative effect of this? Receiving favorable reviews for his acting in “It’s Okay, That’s Love” and “Inseparable Bros”, Lee Kwang-soo is still considered a funny actor or an entertainer. It is regrettable that many young viewers and the elderly even mistook him for a comedian.
Although entertainment programs provide opportunities for actors to promote themselves, the comic images on variety shows may affect their acting careers. Because of this reason, some actors have been hiding their faces from TV programs to focus on acting.
