A comedy movie, which defeated “Frozen” in Korea, is being produced as a K-drama 

Having attracted 8.6 million viewers in Korea and defeated “Frozen”, this Korean comedy movie is getting a drama adaptation.

On March 3rd, Studio Vplus, a broadcasting production company, announced, “The movie ‘Miss Granny’ is being produced as a drama.”

According to the production company, the drama adaptation of “Miss Granny” will be written by Heo Seung Min, who worked on “Risky Romance” and “A Bluebird Has It”. Meanwhile, director Park Yong Soon, who was behind “Secret Mother” and “Wanted”, will take the megaphone. 

On the other hand, the 2014 movie “Miss Granny” revolves around a 70-year-old woman named Oh Mal Soon (Na Moon Hee), who found herself transformed into the 20-year-old Oh Doo Ri (Shim Eun Kyung) overnight. As the main character is in her 20s on the outside yet show a grandmother-like personality, her erratic behavior involved laughter, while her stories touched the hearts of many.

Both humorous and meaningful, “Miss Granny” ended up becoming a huge box office success. At the time of release, it even surpassed the Disney animated movie “Frozen”, and took first place at the box office within two weeks of release (as of January 31, 2014).

The movie has also been remade in various countries, including China, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and India.

Studio Vplus CEO Lee Kyung Seon, who is in charge of producing the drama adaptation for “Miss Granny”, also raised expectations by saying, “We will provide more fun by expanding the  mysteries, as well as solid emotional lines and stories in the movie.”

“Miss Granny” drama adaptation is scheduled to start filming in the first half of 2023, but the broadcast time has not yet been confirmed.
