Emerging herself as a rising star in the Korean film industry, but interestingly, Gong Seung-yeon didn’t intend to become an actor at first. Gong Seung-yeon was cast by an SM official at a gayageum competition when she was an elementary school student then became a trainee at SM Entertainment.
In 2005, she won 1st place in the Best Appearance at the 9th SM Best Youth Contest. Known as the prettiest trainee, she was famous among SM trainees fans at that time. Many expected her to be in a SM girl group, but she failed to debut despite spending 10 years of training. After that, Gong Seung-yeon made her first acting debut in the 2012 drama “I Love Lee Taly” produced by SM. Through this work, she changes her career path from being an idol to an actor. She left SM, took acting classes, and started her new life from the beginning.
Gong Seung-yeon has accumulated an impressive filmography by appearing in various dramas and series, such as “Heard It Through the Grapevine”, Six Flying Dragons”, “The Master of Revenge”, etc.
Most recently, Gong Seung-yeon showcased her comedic acting in “Handsome Guys”. This time, she returns with a new film centered on a disaster at a massive steel mill.
The movie “Deadline” is a disaster human drama about the steelworkers’ fierce struggle to prevent an explosion at the Pohang steel mill after a massive typhoon in 2022. Alongside Gong Seung-yeon, the film stars Park Ji-il, Jung Seok-yong, Hong Seo-jun, Yoo Seung-mok and Jang Hyuk-jin.
