Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming has revealed that his biggest priority is no longer his career, but being present for his son as he grows up.

Speaking at a fashion event earlier this week, Huang said his outlook on life has changed dramatically in recent years. Wanting to avoid missing the most important years of his son’s childhood, he decided to relocate from Beijing to Shanghai, where his extended family lives. The actor shared that three generations of the family are now living under the same roof.

For years, Huang’s career was centered in Beijing, meaning he could only travel to Shanghai during summer and winter breaks or major holidays to spend time with his son. Friends even jokingly referred to him as a “weekend dad.”

After his remarks were shared online, many netizens praised Huang for being a devoted and responsible father, applauding his decision to rearrange both his work and personal life so he could spend more time with his child.

According to QQ, Huang and Angelababy’s son, nicknamed Little Sponge, has been living in Shanghai with his paternal grandparents since the couple divorced. His daily care is reportedly shared between his grandparents and Angelababy. The young boy currently attends one of Shanghai’s prestigious international schools, where admission requires applicants to pass several rounds of competitive interviews. Annual elementary school tuition reportedly ranges from 150,000 to 300,000 yuan. Huang is said to cover about 70% of the educational expenses, while Angelababy pays the remaining share. HK01 reported that although their marriage has ended, the former couple continues to work closely together in raising and supporting their son.

Huang Xiaoming and Angelababy have also been spotted on multiple occasions taking their son to theme parks and spending time together as a family, making a conscious effort to ensure he grows up surrounded by the love and support of both parents.

Born in 1977 in Qingdao, Shandong Province, Huang Xiaoming graduated from the Performance Department of the Beijing Film Academy. He is an actor, singer, and currently serves as vice chairman of the China Film Association. He first rose to nationwide fame with the historical drama The Prince of Han Dynasty in 2001 before starring in hit productions including Shanghai Bund, The Message, American Dreams in China, and The Return of the Condor Heroes.

Throughout his career, Huang has won Best Actor honors at China’s three most prestigious film awards: the Golden Rooster Awards, Hundred Flowers Awards, and Huabiao Awards. In 2024, he added another major achievement by winning Best Actor at the Shanghai International Film Festival for his performance in Mostly Sunny. More recently, he has also begun pursuing a doctoral degree.

In his personal life, Huang was famously married to actress Angelababy, with whom he shares one son before their divorce in 2022. In 2024, he publicly dated model Ye Ke, though the romance attracted considerable online controversy due to her past. After months of keeping a low profile, Ye Ke announced in August 2025 that they had broken up. Some media outlets have also reported that she gave birth to Huang’s daughter.
