According to an exclusive report by News1 on July 1, Cha Eun Woo was baptized into the Catholic Church last month while serving in the military. Currently serving as a corporal in the Republic of Korea Army Military Band, Cha Eun Woo reportedly participated in a baptism ceremony held inside his military base as part of his religious activities.
The news has drawn attention because Cha Eun Woo had never publicly revealed any specific religious beliefs before. His baptism marks the beginning of his journey as an officially recognized Catholic believer during his time in the military.

Some observers have also suggested that he may have found emotional comfort through religion following the tax-related controversy that surfaced earlier this year.
In January, Cha Eun Woo became embroiled in allegations of large-scale tax evasion involving a one-person agency established under his mother’s name. South Korea’s National Tax Service reportedly launched an intensive investigation after determining that the company had operated as a paper company without providing substantial business services and notified him of a significant income tax reassessment.

After receiving the tax reassessment notice, Cha Eun Woo completed the payment of approximately KRW 13 billion in additional taxes in April, bringing the tax procedures to a close. Since then, he has quietly focused on fulfilling his military duties, with the military also dismissing complaints regarding his alleged inappropriate assignment by confirming that he had been assigned to his position through normal procedures.
Meanwhile, Cha Eun Woo enlisted for his mandatory military service in July last year and is scheduled to be discharged in January 2027.
