On June 14, Go Ah Sung appeared on the YouTube channel Yeouido Parenting Club through its content series Urban Women Shelter, where she opened up about concerns surrounding pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting as someone working as an actress.

During the conversation, Go Ah Sung was asked whether actresses, unlike workers in other professions, face unique concerns due to the lack of maternity leave in the entertainment industry.

Responding honestly, she said, “Among actresses, we sometimes joke that if there’s a break in our schedules, we think, ‘Should I hurry up and have a baby now?’ We feel like we need to do it while we’re resting. Because honestly, you never know what will happen next year or even tomorrow.”

She continued, explaining the pressure many actresses feel about making use of downtime: “There’s this sense of obsession that we shouldn’t waste time when we’re on break because our future is so uncertain.”

Go Ah Sung marriage casting issue

When asked whether she worried that marriage or having children could limit the types of roles available to actresses, Go Ah Sung admitted that the concern is very real.

“I’ve heard that it definitely happens,” she shared. “I’m still unmarried, so I haven’t personally experienced it yet, but from what I hear from people in the industry, someone can get cut off from casting simply because people say, ‘Isn’t this actress married?’”

Director Kim Cho Hee, who also appeared in the discussion, agreed with Go Ah Sung’s remarks, adding, “I think it’s especially severe for female actresses.”
