Actress Gong Hyo Jin (46) is set to make her highly anticipated return alongside Resident Playbook breakout star Jung Joon Won (38) in the upcoming drama Married Woman Killer.
MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama Married Woman Killer, written by Kim Eun Hee and directed by Yoon Jong Ho, tells the story of a working mom juggling one of the deadliest professions in the world while trying to maintain a balance between work and family life. The series is based on a popular KakaoPage webtoon of the same name.
The project is already attracting attention for bringing together director Yoon Jong Ho, known for the hit drama Lovely Runner, and writer Kim Eun Hee, who previously penned Ghost Doctor and Live Up to Your Name.
In particular, Married Woman Killer marks Gong Hyo Jin’s first MBC drama in 15 years since The Greatest Love in 2011. Joining her is rising actor Jung Joon Won, who gained major attention last year through Resident Playbook, promising fresh chemistry between the two leads. Actors Lee Sang Yi and Sung Dong Il have also joined the cast, raising anticipation for one of this summer’s most exciting TV lineups.
In the drama, Gong Hyo Jin plays Yoo Bona, the manager of Sales Team 3 at DuruMi Electronics and a legendary sniper known as “Kingfisher.” Yoo Bona is an ordinary woman in her 30s with a husband and a four-year-old daughter, but secretly works as a “one-shot, one-kill” vigilante who eliminates dangerous criminals overlooked by the law.
After returning from a three-year childcare leave, Yoo Bona resumes her life as Kingfisher, constantly navigating between warm family moments and dangerous missions. Fans are especially eager to see how Gong Hyo Jin, often praised for her natural and relatable acting, will portray this dramatic double life.
Jung Joon Won will play Kwon Tae Sung, Yoo Bona’s loving husband, devoted father, and passionate investigative journalist. Known for fearlessly pursuing injustice, Kwon Tae Sung once worked as a reporter covering Kingfisher-related stories and gradually begins uncovering the mysterious killer’s true identity.
Following his breakout success in Resident Playbook, attention is growing over how Jung Joon Won will portray the emotional conflict of balancing his role as a family man with his professional instincts as a journalist.
Lee Sang Yi takes on the role of detective Lee Dong Jin from the Violent Crimes Unit. Having witnessed the pain of crime victims firsthand, he firmly believes in lawful justice rather than vigilante punishment. Driven by a strong sense of duty, he relentlessly pursues Kingfisher in what is expected to become one of the drama’s central tensions.
Meanwhile, veteran actor Sung Dong Il will portray Kim Bong Pal, the head of Sales Team 3 at DuruMi Electronics. Though known as an overly kind and harmless figure nicknamed “Bong the Pushover,” he secretly possesses remarkable strength and experience. He becomes a reliable ally who protects and supports Yoo Bona after her return as a killer.
The production team shared, “In addition to Gong Hyo Jin’s dramatic acting transformation, the unique performances of Jung Joon Won, Lee Sang Yi, and Sung Dong Il will deliver immersive storytelling. By blending a cheerful family drama with thrilling crime action, we hope to offer viewers refreshing excitement and catharsis.”
Married Woman Killer is scheduled to premiere this July.
