The controversy began when Japanese actress Yura Kana posted a short behind-the-scenes clip on X. In the video, she wore a blue sports-style swimsuit, tied her hair into pigtails, and posed energetically during a professional photo shoot.

The footage appeared to show a routine work session. However, after the clip spread beyond her usual audience, some viewers reportedly mistook her for a minor because of her youthful face and petite 143 cm height. Several users then directed harsh criticism at people who found her attractive, describing such interest as disturbing or inappropriate.

As the criticism grew, Yura released a direct statement defending herself and her supporters. “It seems this has caused quite a lot of debate overseas,” she wrote. “However, I am a legally adult woman who is 143 cm tall.” She added that there was nothing unusual about adults finding her attractive because she is, in fact, an adult. “If someone sees me as an attractive woman, I think that is completely normal, because I am already an adult,” she explained.

Yura also emphasized that women naturally have many different body types. “There are many petite people like me in the world,” she said. “Whether someone likes or dislikes this body type is a matter of personal preference.” However, she criticized the tendency to label people as dangerous, disgusting, or mentally unwell simply because they are attracted to an adult woman with a small frame. “I think that kind of labeling is stranger,” she wrote. “After all, I am an adult.”

Her response shifted the discussion toward a broader issue: whether petite adult women are unfairly infantilized because of their height or youthful appearance. While some users continued debating the styling of the video, others defended Yura and argued that an adult woman should not be treated as a child simply because she looks younger than her age.
