WJSN’s Dayoung appeared on the May 23 episode of MBC’s entertainment program Point of Omniscient Interfere, where she was promoting her solo debut under a “hot girl” concept.

During the broadcast, comedian Yang Se-hyung joked that she looked like she came from overseas, to which Dayoung responded humorously, “I’m from Jeju Island,” drawing laughter on set. Host Jun Hyun-moo then added that she looked like a pop star arriving in Korea or someone fresh out of a tanning salon. Dayoung clarified, “People think I’m tanned, but this is actually my natural skin tone.”

The conversation then took a more surprising turn when Dayoung revealed that during her activities with WJSN, she used full-body makeup to adjust her skin tone for stage appearances.

“I used body makeup as well because I had to match a brighter tone,” she explained. “I even used a lighter foundation shade. I had to remove makeup from my whole body, so I used up a bottle of foam cleanser every two weeks.”

Her honest confession quickly went viral after the episode aired, especially among international fans.

Many overseas fans expressed surprise at the revelation, saying they were unaware of the physical demands placed on K-pop idols to maintain specific visual standards. Some viewers described the situation as “shocking” and “unnecessarily harsh,” pointing out the pressure idols face regarding appearance and skin tone.

Others expressed sympathy for Dayoung, noting the effort and discomfort involved in repeatedly applying and removing full-body makeup. Several fans criticized what they see as overly strict beauty expectations within the K-pop industry.

At the same time, a large number of fans defended Dayoung’s natural look, praising her current appearance and encouraging her to embrace her original skin tone. Comments such as “her natural look is hotter” and “the blonde hair and healthy skin tone are perfect together” gained traction online.

Korean netizens also reacted positively, with many saying she likely went through unnecessary discomfort for styling purposes and that her natural skin tone is already beautiful.

Dayoung, a member of WJSN, previously made her solo debut with the track “Body” and recently returned with the digital single “What’s a girl to do,” continuing her active promotions as a solo artist.
