On May 22, Yura uploaded a new video to her YouTube channel YuraYuraHae, where she invited actress Kim Hee Jung as a guest for a candid conversation.
During the video, Yura reflected on her experience filming the movie Marrying the Mafia: Returns and revealed that her lifestyle at the time caused her weight to increase rapidly.
“Back then, I was drinking almost every day,” Yura explained. “I had maintained 47kg for four years, but while filming that movie, I gained 8kg in just two months.”
Kim Hee Jung appeared surprised by the revelation and pointed out that 56kg was considered a perfectly normal weight for Yura’s height of 170cm.
However, Yura admitted that the number felt shocking to her personally because she had never weighed over 54kg in her life before.
The former Girl’s Day member then confessed that she became obsessed with losing the weight quickly afterward.
“After the movie, I barely ate and worked desperately to get back down to 47kg immediately,” she shared.
Unfortunately, the extreme dieting led to visible health changes that deeply affected her appearance.
Yura explained that after completely cutting alcohol and drastically reducing food intake, her cheeks suddenly became hollow and she felt she looked noticeably older.
“Losing weight when you’re older is different from when you’re young,” she admitted honestly.
Eventually, Yura decided to regain some weight for health reasons.
“I gained back up to 50kg, and my face looked much better again,” she said.
Even after recovering some weight, Yura revealed that many people still worried about her appearance and frequently asked whether she was ill or needed medical checkups because she looked too thin.
Her candid confession quickly drew attention online, with many viewers praising the idol-actress for honestly discussing the harsh pressure surrounding body image in the Korean entertainment industry.
Fans also expressed concern over the extreme dieting methods celebrities often feel forced to follow in order to maintain certain beauty standards.
