Recently, a video titled “Where is Cho Jin Woong now and what is he doing?” was released on The Fact’s YouTube channel. In the video, reporter Kang Il Hong shared details about the actor’s current situation. He stated that since announcing his retirement, Cho Jin Woong’s whereabouts have remained largely unknown, adding that he is believed to have cut off contact even with close acquaintances.
The actor previously caused a major stir in December last year after being embroiled in allegations related to a past juvenile detention center record. Reports claimed that he had faced criminal trial for charges including vehicle theft and aggravated crimes, and had been sent to a juvenile correctional facility. Following the controversy, he announced his retirement from the entertainment industry.
Further allegations also surfaced, claiming that after becoming an adult in 2003, he had assaulted a fellow theater member during a drinking gathering while working as a stage actor, resulting in a fine for assault. These claims intensified the controversy surrounding him.
In a personal statement, Cho Jin Woong apologized, saying, “I deeply bow my head in apology to everyone who trusted and supported me for causing disappointment due to my past misconduct.” He added that he would accept all criticism and put an end to his acting career as of that moment.
However, even after announcing his withdrawal from the industry, additional claims from insiders alleging they had been assaulted by him continued to emerge, bringing him back into the spotlight.
The controversy also created difficulties for the tvN drama Signal 2, which had been scheduled for release in the first half of this year. The drama reportedly completed filming last year and was preparing for a June broadcast. Signal 2 was especially anticipated as it marked the reunion of original cast members Kim Hye Soo, Lee Je Hoon, and Cho Jin Woong nearly a decade after the first season aired in 2016. Cho Jin Woong had gained immense popularity for his role as Lee Jae Han in the original series.
With reports that he has even severed ties with close acquaintances, public curiosity about Cho Jin Woong’s current life continues to grow.
