Netflix’s Single’s Inferno 5 is once again at the center of controversy, as final couple Song Seung Il and Kim Min Ji face mounting criticism over their on-screen behavior and remarks involving fellow contestant Lim Soo Bin.
In the episode released on February 10, Single’s Inferno 5 showed Min Ji returning from her Paradise date with Soo Bin. During their date, Min Ji directly asked whether Soo Bin’s feelings had changed, to which he cautiously replied that he “needed more time to think,” effectively signaling a rejection. Later that night, the two continued drinking and talking while sitting on the same bed. After Min Ji fell asleep first, Soo Bin, citing cold weather and alcohol, eventually chose to sleep on the same bed.
The issue escalated the following morning during a group meal. Seung Il suddenly turned to Min Ji and asked, “Can I tell them that you two slept on the same bed?” The unexpected comment left contestant Hee Seon visibly confused. Seung Il quickly brushed it off with laughter, saying, “Never mind. Just eat, Hee Seon.”

Min Ji then raised her voice, stating, “You can’t say that here. I wanted to be honest with you, but not here.” As the tension grew, Hee Seon struggled to understand the situation, while Soo Bin appeared increasingly uncomfortable.
Studio panelists did not hold back their criticism. Super Junior’s Kyuhyun commented, “You said it loud enough for everyone to hear—what are you doing now? They seem overly excited just because they ended up together.” Dex added that it felt like “interfering with someone else’s relationship,” while Hanhae bluntly remarked, “This might be the strangest way to deliver information.” Kyuhyun concluded, “This is the worst possible way. It only created misunderstandings.”
Despite the awkward moment, Seung Il later told Hee Seon privately, “They talked and fell asleep on the same bed. Only you know this. Shh.” When Hee Seon’s expression hardened, he added, “Hey, you need to manage your facial expression. I’ll get scolded.”

The emotional fallout continued as Min Ji admitted that Soo Bin’s words from the previous night “kept lingering” in her mind, appearing closer to him afterward. In a production interview, Hee Seon confessed, “I thought sleeping on the same bed was only possible if there were feelings involved. It made me wonder if Soo Bin’s feelings for Min Ji had grown—or if his feelings for me weren’t sincere.”
Overwhelmed, Hee Seon later broke down in tears in her room, despite fellow contestant Sung Hoon trying to comfort her by saying, “Soo Bin likes you a lot.” She replied honestly, “I still don’t understand Soo Bin’s feelings,” before admitting, “Today was really hard. Being alone.”
Following the broadcast, online reactions were swift and harsh. Many netizens criticized Seung Il and Min Ji’s behavior, leaving comments such as “Why are they acting like this at the end?” “They feel like a bully couple,” and “In that sense, they really suit each other.”
As Single’s Inferno 5 approaches its conclusion, the controversy highlights how a single comment can shift public sentiment, turning a final couple’s happy ending into one of the season’s most debated moments.
