On February 10, Taiwanese media outlets, including TVBS, reported claims that Barbie Hsu’s mother had hired a lawyer to prevent Koo Jun-yup from inheriting her daughter’s assets. According to reports, Barbie Hsu had entrusted all of her entertainment earnings to her mother since her debut and continued to receive an allowance until her passing, with her mother also handling mortgage payments and credit card expenses.
Barbie Hsu rose to stardom through the 2001 Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, which marked the peak of her career. Following the show’s explosive success, she maintained steady advertising contracts across Taiwan and China, with annual earnings often exceeding NT$100 million. Amid growing speculation surrounding her estate, Dee Hsu stepped forward to directly address the rumors involving Koo Jun-yup.

Through her agency, Dee Hsu stated, “Those spreading these rumors are people with truly malicious and dirty intentions.” She added, “Koo Jun-yup gave my sister pure love and allowed her to experience genuine happiness. Our family is always grateful to him.”
Dee Hsu further emphasized, “Koo Jun-yup is our family. We will never harm him we will only protect him. Please stop spreading these rumors.” Koo Jun-yup and Barbie Hsu originally dated for about a year in 1998 but broke up due to their busy schedules. In 2021, after learning of Barbie Hsu’s divorce, Koo Jun-yup reached out to her using her old phone number, leading to their reconnection.

After reuniting more than 20 years later, the couple announced their marriage in March 2022. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they opted not to hold a wedding ceremony and instead completed a marriage registration, choosing to live together. At the time, only immediate family members were able to enter Taiwan. Koo Jun-yup proposed via video call before traveling to Taiwan to officially register their marriage. His arrival was broadcast live on Taiwanese television, drawing widespread attention.
Barbie Hsu passed away on February 2 last year while traveling in Japan due to acute pneumonia. On the first anniversary of her passing, a memorial statue unveiling ceremony was held on February 2 at Jinbaoshan Memorial Park in New Taipei City. Attendees included Koo Jun-yup, Barbie Hsu’s mother, Dee Hsu, other family members, close entertainment industry colleagues, Kang Won-rae, Hong Rok-gi, and Super Junior’s Choi Si-won.

Koo Jun-yup personally designed and produced the memorial statue over the course of a year, driven by his strong desire to honor his late wife. It was reported that he revisited thousands of photos of Barbie Hsu during the process, carefully crafting every detail. Explaining the meaning behind the statue, Koo Jun-yup said, “I wanted Hee-won to always stay by our side. She often said, ‘I’m an alien from outer space,’ so I wanted to create a galaxy just for her.”
The gravestone bears the inscription “Remember Together, Forever Love – Junjun.” The epitaph describes the space as a universe created for Barbie Hsu, with nine cube-shaped structures orbiting her like planets. The number nine symbolizes both Koo Jun-yup’s surname and Barbie Hsu’s favorite number, representing a unique code shared between the two. The statue faces 208 degrees south, symbolically connecting to Taipei, family, and love, while also marking February 8, the date described as when love was completed and became eternal.
