After the first death anniversary of late artist Barbie Hsu, the dramas surrounding her suddenly began trending all over social media once again. What’s notable is that her family and her Korean husband Koo Jun Yup (also known as DJ Koo) have unexpectedly turned into “villains” in the public eye. Previously, they had been met with overwhelming sympathy from netizens, who believed they were constantly grieving the ill-fated actress, crying until they had no tears left and unable to move on from their sorrow. But now, online users are “super-scrutinizing” every action and gesture, claiming to spot unusual signs surrounding this family.
According to Sohu, not long ago, South Korea’s KBS aired a documentary about the real cause of Barbie Hsu’s death, including private footage from her memorial ceremony, broadcast with DJ Koo’s permission. This sparked intense outrage, with many accusing the singer of “chasing fame” off the deceased — merely putting on a show and overacting in front of the camera rather than genuinely mourning his wife. Many viewers believe DJ Koo lacked sincerity, pointing out that despite having nearly a year to prepare, he still failed to create a memorial statue that truly resembled Barbie Hsu.
At the same time, many netizens harshly revisited the issue that DJ Koo and the Hsu family were aware that Barbie Hsu’s health was poor, yet they did not stop her from taking a trip to Japan — a decision that ultimately led to the tragic incident. Not only that, due to negligence, they allegedly missed five “golden opportunities” to save her life, leaving fans heartbroken.

Another issue stirring public anger is the question of where Barbie Hsu’s insurance money went after her death. Sohu revealed that just a few hours after the Meteor Garden actress “closed her eyes forever,” her mother, Huang Chun Mei, hurriedly began handling her daughter’s insurance matters.
Previously, Taiwanese media reported that after Barbie Hsu passed away, DJ Koo mysteriously disappeared for a period of time to deal with more than 20 insurance policies belonging to his late wife. At the time, many believed these were baseless rumors. However, now that people are comparing them with the information DJ Koo shared on Korean television, netizens feel that something doesn’t quite add up.
On the show, DJ Koo emphasized that Barbie Hsu underwent 14 hours of emergency treatment but did not survive, passing away on February 3. However, her family and close friends all insist that she died on February 2, and all memorial rituals have been conducted according to that date.
A “conspiracy theory” has since emerged, suggesting that DJ Koo deliberately blurred the timeline to prevent others from discovering that he had his eye on his late wife’s insurance money. Although no official source has confirmed this information, netizens remain suspicious.

Beyond that, there are numerous troubling issues surrounding Barbie Hsu’s family — from not informing her children about their mother’s funeral and memorial ceremonies, to suspicions of secretly taking her jewelry and other valuable belongings.
Taiwanese media revealed that during her lifetime, Barbie Hsu had entrusted her savings to her mother for safekeeping. However, when she later faced financial difficulties and asked to retrieve her own money, her mother allegedly refused. As a result, after her death, the actress left behind a large estate — along with a considerable debt of around 250 million TWD. Whoever inherits her estate will also inherit this debt. Based on the current situation, it appears that Barbie Hsu’s two children may end up bearing the full burden, as there are reports that DJ Koo intends to transfer his share of the inheritance to his wife’s children.

Another notable point is that while she was alive, Barbie Hsu repeatedly emphasized her wish for her children to grow up freely and have their privacy protected. However, the Hsu family has repeatedly brought the children into public discussions.
For example, in the past, TV host Dee Hsu — Barbie Hsu’s younger sister — criticized Barbie’s daughter Wang Hsi Yueh for being impolite and less well-behaved than her own children. Meanwhile, Aya, a close friend of Barbie Hsu, praised both Hsi Yueh and Hsi Lin as extremely adorable. Even Mandy Ma, the new wife of Wang Xiaofei, has expressed great affection for the children and praised Barbie Hsu for raising them well. This contrast has left many netizens dissatisfied with how Barbie Hsu’s family has treated her two children.
