Elva Hsiao, born in 1979, was once one of the top A-list divas of the Mandarin pop music scene. Known for her refined beauty, distinctive voice, and captivating stage presence, she enjoyed massive success both musically and commercially. Alongside her career, she also attracted attention for her complex love life, having reportedly dated more than 20 men, many of them significantly younger. However, in recent years, her appearance has noticeably deteriorated, repeatedly shocking the public whenever she appeared in public. The most devastating turning point came after a tragic accident in 2021, when she was attacked by her own pet dog, leaving her face severely disfigured and almost unrecognizable.

Elva Hsiao is a well-known animal lover and keeps five dogs at home. In late March 2021, as she and her then-boyfriend Huang Hao were preparing to go to bed, one of the dogs suddenly lunged at them and attacked violently. Elva suffered serious facial injuries, while Huang Hao was bitten around the mouth. Both were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. The bite wounds to Elva’s face were especially deep and severe, causing part of her right cheek to cave in “as if a piece of flesh had been torn away,” and leading to necrotic infection that lasted for nearly two months.

She later shared that she was forced to remain almost completely immobile during recovery, with both her physical and mental health taking a major hit. Even after prolonged treatment, the pain lingered, and she struggled to smile, cry, or even perform simple actions like touching her nose. Following the incident, Elva suspended all entertainment activities for more than a year to focus on treatment and rehabilitation.

The Taiwanese diva tearfully admitted that the accident had effectively ruined her face, forcing her to undergo reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries to fill in her cheek and even out her skin tone. “Artists make a living with their faces. I can’t afford to look ugly,” she said. “Every time I looked in the mirror while applying medicine, I cried. The dark red scar stretched about five centimeters around my mouth and cheek.”
Despite the trauma, Elva chose not to abandon the dogs that attacked her. “I don’t hate my dogs. I love them. They didn’t mean to hurt me, so I can’t abandon them,” she explained, drawing mixed reactions from the public.

After undergoing multiple cosmetic surgeries since 2010, combined with the severe aftereffects of the dog attack, Elva Hsiao’s facial features have now become noticeably distorted and asymmetrical, leaving many fans deeply shocked. She has been described as having a frighteningly unbalanced “snake-like face.”

In unfiltered photos taken at public events, her face appears stiff, with an unnaturally sharp chin, an overly high and artificial-looking nose, and excessively full lips. Chinese netizens have commented that Elva Hsiao today looks like a completely different person compared to her younger years. Many fans have expressed regret and sorrow over the loss of the natural beauty that once defined one of Mandopop’s most iconic stars.
