In a lengthy statement posted on social media on January 28, Jang Dong Joo detailed the ordeal he endured. He wrote that last summer, he received a phone call from an unknown number. The man on the line claimed to know his daily movements in detail and chillingly said, “Jang Dong Joo, you were here on this date, weren’t you?” Shortly after, Jang received extremely private photos taken from his personal phone album, along with screenshots of his chat histories and contact list. “My phone had been completely hacked,” he explained.
From that point on, Jang said his life turned into a nightmare. He received daily threats and constant demands for money. “Every day was hell,” he wrote. “I changed my phone number countless times, but even after trying three times, I couldn’t escape. My life became a painful prison. That man demanded things I could never do. I had no choice but to do exactly what he told me.”

According to Jang, the blackmail forced him to borrow money from every possible source, including banks. “I did anything to get money. My family even sold our house because of me,” he confessed. “Debt created more debt. Unpayable debt created even more unpayable debt. Billions of won were lost, my family suffered, and I was left carrying a mountain of debt.”
He added that despite his efforts, he was never certain he could fully protect the secrets stored on his phone. “I lost everything I wanted to protect my normal life, the people in my contacts, and my family’s happiness,” he wrote.
Jang Dong Joo apologized to those who suffered because of him and vowed to rebuild his life, saying he would work relentlessly to repay every won he owes.
Despite the ordeal, Jang is currently appearing in the SBS drama No Tail to Tell, signaling a cautious return to his professional activities.
Born on October 25, 1994, Jang Dong Joo is a South Korean actor best known for his roles in the television series Loss Time Life and the film Honest Candidate. His revelation has sparked widespread discussion about digital security, celebrity privacy, and the severe consequences of cybercrime.
