According to real estate platform Value Map, the estimated market value of a building owned by Hyun Bin in Cheongdam-dong stood at 19.69 billion won as of January 27 nearly four times its original purchase price. The valuation is based on nearby transaction prices, location, and the building’s overall value.
Hyun Bin purchased the property in September 2013 for 4.8 billion won. Located behind Dosan-daero in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, the site was originally an old residential complex on roughly 360 square meters of land registered under a family company. In 2015, he demolished the existing structure and constructed a new building with four basement levels and seven floors above ground. Today, three floors are used by Hyun Bin’s management company, while the remaining space is leased to commercial tenants such as restaurants and beauty clinics.
According to Nate, Hyun Bin financed the entire project with cash, without taking out loans, and currently carries no debt. Including the purchase price, demolition, design, supervision, construction costs, and other expenses, the total investment is estimated at around 8 billion won. The building’s design was widely praised and even won the Seoul Architectural Excellence Award in 2017.
Hyun Bin has long been recognized for making stable, well-timed property investments. In 2009, he purchased a luxury villa in Heukseok-dong, Seoul, for 2.7 billion won and sold it in 2021 for 4 billion won. In June 2020, he also bought a penthouse at Walkerhill Podoville in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, in preparation for married life with Son Ye Jin, paying the remaining balance in cash. He later listed the property for sale at 7 billion won in 2024 and revealed in a recent Disney+ Made in Korea interview that he no longer lives there.
Son Ye Jin is equally renowned as a “genius” real estate investor in the entertainment industry. She drew attention after selling a villa in Samseong-dong, Gangnam purchased in 2008 for 3 billion won for 4.8 billion won in 2023, earning a capital gain of 1.8 billion won. Real estate experts believe the sale was strategically timed to take advantage of tax exemptions available to married couples within five years of marriage.
In 2015, Son Ye Jin bought a building in Seogyo-dong, Mapo District, for 9.35 billion won and sold it in February 2018 for 13.5 billion won. She later acquired a building in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, for 16 billion won in 2020, followed by another property in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam, for 24.4 billion won in 2022.
A top-tier star in Korean entertainment, Son Ye Jin is known for iconic films and dramas such as The Classic, Summer Scent, A Moment to Remember, Alone in Love, My Wife Got Married, The Last Princess, Something in the Rain, and Crash Landing on You, where she starred alongside Hyun Bin.
