Biography

Sion, is a South Korean singer, dancer, and leader of the boy group NCT WISH, a sub-unit of the larger South Korean boy band NCT. He is managed by SM Entertainment and Avex Trax, and debuted with NCT WISH in 2024.

Early Life and Education

Oh Si-on was born on May 11, 2002, in Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, South Korea. He grew up in South Korea and developed an interest in music and performance at an early age. Prior to his official debut, Sion was scouted and signed by SM Entertainment, where he trained extensively as part of the company’s development system. During his trainee years, he focused on improving his vocal, dance, and performance skills to prepare for debut with a future NCT sub-unit.

Specific details regarding his formal schooling have not been widely publicized, as his path led him into professional training within the entertainment industry under SM’s structured trainee system.

Career

Pre-Debut and SM Rookies

Sion was introduced as part of SMROOKIES in mid-2023, a pre-debut training team established by SM Entertainment to showcase potential future artists. During this period, he participated in various pre-debut activities and content that highlighted his developing performance abilities.

Debut with NCT WISH (2023–Present)

In 2023, SM Entertainment announced the formation of a new NCT sub-unit, initially referred to as NCT New Team. Sion was revealed as one of the first members and designated as the group’s leader and lead vocalist. On February 28, 2024, the unit officially debuted under the name NCT WISH with the digital single “Wish,” released in both Korean and Japanese versions.

As leader, Sion plays a central role in guiding group activities, contributing to vocals and performance while representing the unit in domestic and international promotions. NCT WISH’s debut marked a major milestone for the project and positioned them as the sixth official sub-unit within the NCT structure.

Fun Facts

  1. Sion was already well-known for his handsome looks in Mokpo even before debut.
  2. At his middle school graduation, many students reportedly approached him to give letters and ask for photos together, treating him like a celebrity.
  3. While balancing school and acting classes, Sion was cast by SM Entertainment via Instagram DM during his first year of high school an extremely rare case, as he was scouted solely from photos posted online.
  4. At first, Sion thought the DM was a scam and rejected it. About a month later, SM contacted him again, and only then did he realize it was legitimate.
  5. Just three days after the audition, SM contacted him again. Sion moved to Seoul immediately to begin training.
  6. Sion signed with SM Entertainment in 2018 and trained for approximately five years.
  7. On June 28, 2023, Sion was officially introduced as an SMROOKIES member, alongside Yushi.
  8. On September 26, 2023, Sion graduated from SMROOKIES in preparation for debuting in a new team. Although his debut was already confirmed, Sion still participated in NCT Universe: LASTART, performing mission stages alongside other trainees to prove why he was a debut-ready member.
  9. Through LASTART, he officially pre-debuted as part of the group initially known as NCT NEW TEAM, which later debuted as NCT WISH.
