The upcoming Channel A weekend drama Positively Yours begins its broadcast journey tonight (Jan 17) at 10:30 PM KST, carrying both high expectations and a significant burden. Based on a wildly popular web novel and webtoon, the drama drew major attention even before casting, thanks to the massive fanbase of the original work. However, it also faces challenges chief among them being a casting controversy and Channel A’s track record of low drama ratings.

Positively Yours is a reverse romantic comedy about two people who have sworn off marriage but end up entangled after a one-night stand that results in an unexpected pregnancy. It stars Choi Jin Hyuk as Kang Doo Joon, a perfect chaebol heir who vowed never to marry. He gets tangled with Jang Hee Won (played by Oh Yeon Seo), a successful career woman with zero experience in love.

Hong Jong Hyun plays Min Wook, Hee Won’s best friend of 20 years, caught between love and friendship. Kim Dasom adds depth as Hwang Mi Ran, Hee Won’s close friend, whose growing interest in Min Wook introduces tension into their friendship.

The drama turns the traditional love-dating-marriage timeline on its head, beginning with pregnancy and exploring themes of relationships, careers, and commitment in a modern context. The casting and unique premise have fueled considerable buzz, particularly due to the webtoon’s record-breaking run 52 consecutive weeks at #1 on Naver Series.

Director Kim Jin Seong expressed his intent to balance the original’s appeal with the distinct charm of drama storytelling, even if some differences emerge.

Yet the drama’s journey hasn’t been smooth. Originally cast as Min Wook, actor Yoon Ji On was removed from the production after a DUI scandal in September 2025. He confessed via social media that he was so intoxicated he took an unattended motorcycle and was caught driving it. Although much of his footage had already been filmed, it was scrapped, and he was replaced by Hong Jong Hyun, who joined mid-production. Hong admitted he was initially concerned about fitting into a cast that had already bonded but quickly adapted.

Compounding the pressure is Channel A’s history of low weekend drama ratings. Previous titles like Cinderella at 2 AM, Marry You, and My Lovely Journey struggled to surpass 1% viewership, casting doubt on the network’s ability to produce a breakout hit.

Despite the hurdles, Positively Yours banks on its romantic chemistry and intriguing four-way dynamics. The main love triangle, plus the added emotional complexity from Mi Ran and Min Wook’s growing closeness, sets the stage for a compelling watch.

With 12 episodes planned, the drama premieres tonight and aims to win over viewers by overcoming its early controversies and living up to the beloved webtoon’s reputation.
