Fans of IU and Byeon Woo-seok were finally treated to their much-anticipated couple moment on December 30 at the 2025 MBC Drama Awards, held at the MBC Media Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul.
The pair appeared together on stage to present the Drama of the Year Award, marking their first official public appearance as co-stars of the upcoming 2026 drama 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife —one of MBC’s most highly anticipated series for next year.
Dressed in coordinated black outfits, IU and Byeon Woo-seok stood side by side, instantly capturing attention. IU stunned in a look inspired by traditional Korean beauty, complete with a mal binyeo (horsehair hairpin), while Byeon Woo-seok wore a modern reinterpretation of traditional hanbok attire, blending classic elegance with red carpet flair.
IU broke the ice, saying, “We’ve been seeing each other a lot on set lately, and since our drama is set in a constitutional monarchy, we’re always dressed in elaborate costumes. But you seem to have dressed especially well today.”
Visibly nervous, Byeon Woo-seok responded, “It’s my first time at the MBC Drama Awards, so I wanted to dress a bit more formally. Do I look okay?” IU reassured him with a smile, “You look especially handsome today, Grand Prince.” He quickly returned the compliment, saying, “And Ji-eun, you look even more beautiful tonight.”
The sweet exchange drew warm reactions from the audience, who delighted in the chemistry between the two stars.
IU then explained her choice of accessory, saying, “I decided to wear this horsehair pin in hopes of bringing good luck to viewers in the upcoming Year of the Horse. I wish everyone an early Happy New Year.” Byeon Woo-seok echoed her well-wishes, also wishing the audience prosperity in 2026.
IU continued, “This is my first time greeting viewers through an MBC drama. I hope you’ll show lots of love to our upcoming project.” When Byeon Woo-seok encouraged her to introduce the drama properly, IU described 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife and their characters, before adding, “I hope that next year, our drama will be nominated for Drama of the Year at this very stage.”
Their on-stage exchange, full of mutual respect and budding chemistry, has left fans even more excited for their upcoming drama—and earned them instant “couple buzz” status in Korean entertainment circles.
