A shocking knife attack involving Japanese idol group HKT48 has left a staff member seriously injured, prompting heightened security concerns around idol events in Japan.
According to Japanese media outlet Zakzak, a 30-year-old man was arrested on December 15 in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred in Fukuoka. The attack injured a male staff member affiliated with HKT48, as well as a concertgoer attending an event by boy group Hey! Say! JUMP. Both victims reportedly sustained serious injuries.
The incident took place near a staff-only entrance on the first floor of the BOSS E-ZO FUKUOKA commercial complex, located close to Mizuho PayPay Dome, home stadium of the SoftBank Hawks baseball team.
On the same day, HKT48’s management company released an official statement through the group’s verified account. The agency explained that the group had arrived at BOSS E-ZO FUKUOKA around 5 p.m. on December 14 to host a 17LIVE HKT48 Theater event when a man in his 30s attacked a staff member with a knife.

“One of our male staff members was injured in this incident. He is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, and his injuries are not life-threatening,” the statement read. The company added that it plans to work closely with management teams to further strengthen security measures to ensure the safety of both artists and staff.
At the time of the attack, the shopping complex was particularly crowded, as two major events were taking place simultaneously the HKT48 event and a separate activity by Hey! Say! JUMP. The situation caused temporary chaos, and because the suspect initially fled the scene, police raised the alert level, sealed off the area, and launched a manhunt.

On December 15, Fukuoka Prefectural Police confirmed the arrest of Naoya Yamaguchi, a 30-year-old unemployed man, who is currently being investigated on suspicion of attempted murder.
As a result of the incident, HKT48’s online fan meeting commemorating the release of their 19th single Sleeveless Angel, which was scheduled to take place on December 18 at the same venue, was abruptly canceled.

HKT48 is a Fukuoka-based female idol group formed on October 23, 2011, and is part of the well-known AKB48 franchise. The group is managed by Mercury and is regarded as a major representative of regional idol culture in Japan.
The incident has reignited concerns over security at large-scale entertainment events, particularly those involving idol groups and large fan gatherings.
