Biography

Tiffany Young (Stephanie Young Hwang) is a Korean-American singer and actress, best known as a member of Girls’ Generation (SNSD). After debuting solo in 2016, she rebranded as Tiffany Young and built a global career with English-language releases and musical theatre, while continuing acting and music activities through 2025.

Career

Early Career & SM Entertainment Training

Tiffany Young was discovered by SM Entertainment in 2004 during an audition in Los Angeles. At just 15 years old, she moved alone to South Korea to begin her trainee life. Despite language barriers and cultural differences, she trained intensively in vocals, dance, and performance for more than three years.

Her fluency in English and bright stage presence quickly made her stand out among trainees, while her vocal tone became one of her defining strengths.

Debut & Global Success With Girls’ Generation (2007–2017)

Tiffany officially debuted in August 2007 as a member of Girls’ Generation (SNSD), one of the most influential girl groups in K-pop history. As part of the group’s vocal line, she played a key role in shaping SNSD’s signature sound.

Girls’ Generation went on to achieve massive success with hit songs such as Gee, Genie, Run Devil Run, The Boys, and I Got a Boy, breaking records in album sales, music show wins, and international tours. Tiffany became especially popular for her bright image, expressive performances, and strong fan engagement, both in Korea and overseas.

She was also active in the vocal-focused sub-unit Girls’ Generation-TTS (Taeyeon, Tiffany, Seohyun), which showcased her vocal growth and musical maturity.

First Solo Debut Under SM (2016)

In 2016, Tiffany made her solo debut with the EP I Just Wanna Dance, becoming the second Girls’ Generation member to debut solo. The album highlighted her interest in synth-pop, R&B, and dance music, blending Western pop influences with K-pop aesthetics.

The EP was well received and marked an important turning point, allowing Tiffany to establish her own musical identity beyond the group.

Leaving SM & Reinvention as Tiffany Young (2017–2019)

In October 2017, Tiffany chose not to renew her contract with SM Entertainment. She rebranded herself as Tiffany Young and relocated to the United States to pursue a global solo career.

In 2018, she released the English-language single Over My Skin, signaling a bold shift toward Western pop. This was followed by Teach You, Born Again, and the holiday single Peppermint. Her 2019 EP Lips on Lips explored themes of self-love, vulnerability, and independence, earning critical praise and strong international chart performance.

That same year, Tiffany won Best Solo Breakout at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, becoming one of the first Korean female soloists to receive the honor.

Return to Korea & Continued Activities (2020–Present)

From 2020 onward, Tiffany balanced activities between Korea and the U.S., rejoining Girls’ Generation for special projects, including the group’s 15th-anniversary comeback Forever 1 in 2022.

She continued releasing music, appearing on variety shows, hosting programs, and participating in fashion and brand campaigns. Her career evolved into that of a multi-hyphenate entertainer singer, actress, stage performer, and cultural icon.

Expansion Into Acting & Musical Theatre

Alongside music, Tiffany expanded her career into acting and musical theatre. She appeared in television dramas and took on stage roles, most notably starring as Roxie Hart in the Korean production of the musical Chicago a milestone achievement that showcased her growth as a performer beyond pop music.

Her acting projects, including roles in dramas such as Reborn Rich and Uncle Samsik, demonstrated her willingness to take on challenging, mature characters and broaden her artistic range.

Relationships

Nichkun (2PM)

In April 2014, SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment officially confirmed that Tiffany and Nichkhun were dating. Their relationship quickly became a major topic in the media due to both artists’ popularity and their long-standing careers as top idols.

The couple dated for approximately one year. During this time, they were often described as a “representative idol couple”. In 2015, it was reported that Tiffany and Nichkhun had amicably ended their relationship due to busy schedules and long periods of separation. Both agencies confirmed the breakup and emphasized that they remained on good terms.

Byun Yo Han

Actor Byun Yo-han is currently in a serious relationship with Girls’ Generation member Tiffany Young, and they are considering marriage. On December 13, Byun Yo-han’s agency Team Hope stated, “The two actors have been dating with the premise of marriage in mind.” While specifics about the wedding date remain undisclosed, the agency added, “The couple is determined to share the happy news with fans first once their plans solidify. We ask for your warm support and blessings for their future.”

Their romance reportedly began during filming for the Disney+ original series Uncle Samsik, where their mutual admiration deepened. On set, the two complemented each other, filling in one another’s gaps both professionally and personally.
