On December 9, comedian Jo Se-ho’s agency A2Z Entertainment released an official statement announcing his voluntary departure from the two major variety programs.

According to the agency, Jo Se-ho “feels deep responsibility for the misunderstandings and controversies surrounding him” and is fully aware of the discomfort viewers may experience while his name remains embroiled in scandal. Wanting to avoid placing unnecessary burden on production staff, he reportedly discussed the matter with both shows and chose to resign.

Jo Se-ho gang ties controversy

At the center of the controversy is speculation that Jo Se-ho was close to “Mr. Choi,” identified as the ringleader behind one of Korea’s largest illegal money laundering operations.

An individual known as A previously claimed that Jo Se-ho maintained a personal friendship with Choi and had allegedly received high-end gifts from him, even releasing photos online to support this narrative.

However, Jo Se-ho’s agency firmly refuted the claims last week, stating:

  • Jo Se-ho has no connection to Choi’s business activities.
  • Accusations of receiving gifts or financial benefits are entirely false.
  • The claims are A’s personal speculation with no factual basis.

The company added it is considering both civil and criminal legal action against the individual for spreading “false information, reputational damage, and obstruction of business.”

In its latest announcement, A2Z stressed that Jo Se-ho and the agency will be “responding more swiftly and aggressively” to clear lingering suspicions and repair his tarnished public image. They reiterated that the comedian had no involvement—directly or indirectly—in the illegal business dealings under scrutiny.

The agency also expressed Jo’s gratitude, noting that he has received an overwhelming number of sincere messages filled with concern, encouragement, and even stern criticism, all of which he sees as moments for self-reflection.

A2Z concluded the statement by promising that Jo Se-ho will “return in a healthier state” once all misunderstandings have been fully addressed, asking the public for continued support during the challenging period.
