TVING’s original series Dear X has officially wrapped its five-week run, concluding with an explosive and deeply emotional ending that left viewers worldwide sharply divided.

Episodes 11 and 12, released on December 4, delivered the final fates of Baek Ah-jin (Kim Yoo-jung), Yoon Jun-seo (Kim Young-dae), and Kim Jae-oh (Kim Do-hoon), ending their turbulent journey of obsession, betrayal, and self-destruction.

In the final act, Jae-oh uncovers the truth behind Ah-jin’s collapse, tracing the danger to both Shim Sung-hee’s psychiatric hospitalization and the ominous behavior of Moon Do-hyuk (Hong Jong-hyun). Meanwhile, Ah-jin, who has partially lost her memory, becomes trapped in an escalating state of confusion. Jae-oh warns her repeatedly about Do-hyuk’s growing threat, but Ah-jin knows that leaving her husband means losing everything she has built.

Jae-oh ultimately sacrifices himself in a desperate attempt to protect her. Jun-seo, consumed by guilt and his own unresolved trauma, confronts the reality of Ah-jin’s suffering when he discovers her trembling alone at a pool. Overwhelmed by fear and despair, he makes a tragic final decision that seals the show’s bleak, irreversible ending.

The finale stayed faithful to the original webtoon’s dark tone while expanding the narrative with bold, unpredictable twists. Its portrayal of toxic love, irreversible damage, and moral collapse drew praise for its intensity and emotional craftsmanship. However, not all viewers were satisfied.

Many international fans expressed frustration with the open-ended, symbolic conclusion, claiming the final scenes offered no clear resolution. Comments ranged from confusion to disappointment, with some insisting the story “cannot possibly end here” and demanding a second season to complete the characters’ arcs.

Despite the controversy, Dear X has been a global triumph. According to TVING, the drama ranked No.1 in 108 countries including the United States, Brazil, Mexico, France, and India via the streaming platform Rakuten Viki, entering the weekly Top 3 rankings and solidifying its position as one of Korea’s most-discussed series of the year.

As debate around the Dear X ending continues to intensify, its haunting final message remains clear: in a world driven by obsession and fear, love can be the most destructive force of all.
