In 2024, Li Sixuan was crowned the 47th Miss Woman of the Universe, admired for her sweet and graceful appearance. However, shortly after her victory, her reign was cut short due to legal issues. Li Sixuan was found guilty of falsifying her age and academic qualifications, leading to her imprisonment and the revocation of her crown.

According to the pageant organizers, Li Sixuan was born in 1997 but listed her birth year as 2000 on her application. More seriously, she submitted a fake degree to pursue a master’s program at The University of Hong Kong. Using a falsified diploma from Columbia University, she successfully enrolled in a master’s program in Literature and Applied Linguistics from December 2021 to July 2024.

In March 2024, The University of Hong Kong received a complaint regarding the forged diploma. Following an internal investigation, authorities were notified. Police discovered a blank diploma template hidden in Li Sixuan’s secret drawer during a home search.
During her trial, Li Sixuan admitted to police that she had graduated from Zhongnan University of Finance and Economics and Wuhan University Law School in 2020. Struggling to compete for a master’s program at The University of Hong Kong, she paid 380,000 CNY to a company specializing in diploma forgery. The company arranged for her to attend a brief online course at Columbia University and then fabricated her degree.
Furthermore, after obtaining the master’s degree through fraud, Li Sixuan altered her academic record from “Pass” to “Excellent.”

In May 2025, during her final trial, Li Sixuan appeared exhausted and remorseful, admitting to both charges of forging diplomas and certificates. Her cooperation and truthful confession resulted in a one-third reduction of her sentence. Ultimately, she was sentenced to 8 months in prison, making her one of the fastest-falling beauty queens in Chinese entertainment history.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of academic fraud, even for high-profile public figures in the entertainment industry.
