In the November 16 episode of My Ugly Duckling, actor Bae Jung-nam accompanied the show’s crew to visit a shaman, who then interpreted his fortune, portraying him as: “A man with much unresolved sorrow. Even with parents or siblings, your life has been marked by separation and longing. You have endured much pain silently, and your past involved life-threatening accidents and hardships.”

The shaman explained that Bae Jung-nam’s misfortunes were influenced by surrounding deaths and negative energy but reassured him that good fortune would return starting next year.

Bae Jung-nam body discovery

Bae Jung-nam also shared the story of his late dog, Bell, explaining how his pet had absorbed negative energy.

“The bad energy was carried away by Bell. That’s why I had to perform a ritual with the fur and belongings he left behind,” the shaman advised.

The conversation then turned to Bae Jung-nam’s shocking encounter during his walk: “At first, I thought someone was exercising in the forest. But when I looked back, I froze—it was a man’s body. I immediately called the police.”

He described attempting to assist the scene before emergency responders arrived: “119 instructed me to release the rope, but I couldn’t at first because of the weight. It was frustrating and shocking. Eventually, the paramedics arrived and handled it, but the experience was deeply affecting.”

Despite the trauma, Bae Jung-nam could not avoid the trail he shared with Bell. To honor the deceased, he performed a ritual at the site: “I poured soju and makgeolli for 49 days and buried coins in the ground for him. I couldn’t give up the path we used to walk.”

Bae Jung-nam’s candid storytelling highlighted not only the shock of the incident but also his respect for spiritual customs and the lasting bond with his late pet.
