Ten years ago, the tvN drama Reply 1988 captured the hearts of viewers with its nostalgic charm, and alongside its soaring popularity, the OST track “A Little Girl” by Oh Hyuk of Hyukoh left a lasting impression.

Released on November 20, 2015, A Little Girl is a remake of Lee Moon-sae’s original 1985 song from his third studio album. The original track, with its sentimental pop melody and emotive vocals, has remained beloved across generations. Born in 1993, Oh Hyuk reinterpreted the song—originally released before he was born—through his own lens, blending it with a warm Fender Rhodes piano sound and his signature vocal style to create something timeless yet refreshingly new.

The song became iconic when it was used in episode 5 of Reply 1988, during a heartfelt moment when Jung-hwan (played by Ryu Jun-yeol) quietly waits with an umbrella for Deok-sun (played by Hyeri), showing silent concern for the girl he secretly loves. The synergy between the music and the emotionally charged scene resonated deeply with viewers.

Following the episode’s airing, A Little Girl shot to the top of music charts, reaching No. 1 across platforms. It notably ranked first on Melon’s overall weekly chart for the fourth week of November 2015 (November 23–29), further solidifying its emotional impact.

The drama also sparked real-life romance: Hyeri and Ryu Jun-yeol, who met through the series, confirmed their relationship in 2017 and dated publicly for eight years. However, the couple announced their breakup at the end of 2023.

Recently, the cast of Reply 1988 reunited to celebrate the show’s 10th anniversary. Last month, the YouTube channel “Channel 15ya” shared teaser photos with the caption, “Reply 1988 10th Anniversary. See you this winter.”

The reunion took place in Gangwon Province and featured cast members including Hyeri, Park Bo-gum, Lee Il-hwa, Lee Dong-hwi, Go Kyung-pyo, Lee Min-ji, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Sung-kyun, Ahn Jae-hong, Ryu Hye-young, Choi Sung-won, and Choi Moo-sung.

Ryu Jun-yeol, however, was partially absent due to scheduling conflicts. A representative from tvN stated, “Although Ryu Jun-yeol couldn’t join the entire retreat, he made time to participate in some segments of the anniversary content.” He reportedly took part in an individual opening and a “family shoot” with Ra Mi-ran, Kim Sung-kyun, and Ahn Jae-hong.

Even a decade later, moments like Jung-hwan’s quiet gesture under the rain, paired with Oh Hyuk’s soulful A Little Girl, continue to evoke emotion—reminding fans why Reply 1988 remains a beloved classic.
