Even before its official premiere, TVING original series Dear X is shaking up K-drama circles with intense anticipation, eyeing comparisons to past megahits like Descendants of the Sun and Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.
Set to premiere on November 6 at 6 p.m. KST, Dear X has revealed final teasers and insider perspectives from the main cast and production team, triggering explosive online reactions.
The series centers around Baek Ah Jin (played by Kim Yoo Jung), a woman hiding her haunting past behind a perfect mask, and the trail of victims “the Xs” she leaves behind. Branded as a “destructive melodrama suspense,” the drama delves deep into psychological turmoil while delivering addictive genre thrills.

Directed by Lee Eung Bok (Mr. Sunshine, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, Descendants of the Sun, Sweet Home) and Park So Hyun, and written by award-winning Choi Ja Won and original webtoon author Vanziun, Dear X is based on a wildly popular Naver webtoon with a massive global fanbase.
Director Lee teased, “This is my first time directing a drama with a villain as the lead. Forget mild drama this one brings the full spice. Enjoy it without spoilers.” He emphasized the show’s psychological tension, noting that Kim Yoo Jung brings unmatched intensity to the role.
The opening episodes (1–4) focus on Baek Ah Jin’s tragic backstory and evolution. Writer Choi Ja Won explained, “As viewers follow the emotional threads between Ah Jin, Yoon Jun Seo (Kim Young Dae), and Kim Jae Oh (Kim Do Hoon), they’ll find themselves unexpectedly empathizing with each choice.”
Vanziun added, “Episodes 1–4 highlight Baek Ah Jin’s confrontations with powerful antagonists. Watching how she ‘handles’ each villain is key. Expect high-speed pacing and addictive storytelling.”

The drama also boasts a high-impact cast:
- Kim Yoo Jung reinvents herself with a darker, edgier image as Baek Ah Jin.
- Kim Young Dae plays Yoon Jun Seo, a man who believes love is salvation, emphasizing the emotional shifts in his relationships.
- Kim Do Hoon appears as Kim Jae Oh, Baek Ah Jin’s enigmatic accomplice, hinting at twisted yet familiar dynamics.
- Lee Yul Eum stuns as Lena, a top actress who envies Ah Jin and seeks to steal everything from her.
Already previewed at the 30th Busan International Film Festival and through early screenings on October 30, Dear X received praise for its tight direction, gripping script, and nuanced performances. Director Lee elevated the story with added psychological layers not present in the original webtoon, earning accolades for the show’s immersive quality.
With global ambitions, Dear X will premiere simultaneously in 19 countries, including through HBO Max and Disney+ Japan, marking one of TVING’s most ambitious international launches to date.

Online reactions are already glowing:
- “Kim Yoo Jung is finally back with a true adult role!”
- “A child star all grown up, now clashing with the world—so compelling!”
- “This is the most anticipated drama on TVING!”
- “Lee Eung Bok + Kim Yoo Jung = instant watch!”
- “The OST is insane. I’m obsessed with the vibe already.”
Many fans are also raving about the original webtoon and are eager to see how its dark, gripping story plays out on screen. One user wrote, “Even the webtoon was crazy, and now the drama’s taking it up a notch.” Another added, “Lee Yul Eum’s femme fatale energy looks next level.”
From spoiler-free viewing pledges to passionate hype, Dear X is already being hailed as the next must-watch K-drama sensation even before a single full episode drops. If early reactions are anything to go by, Dear X may well redefine the K-suspense genre for 2025.
