Hwang Min Hyun is set to make his highly anticipated post-military comeback with the second season of the hit TVING original series Study Group. According to industry sources on October 23, Hwang will begin filming for Study Group 2 in the first half of 2026, following his military discharge on December 20, 2025.
Pledis Entertainment, his agency, responded to the reports stating the project is currently “under discussion.” The production team of Study Group 2 is currently preparing filming around Hwang Min Hyun’s post-service schedule.

Study Group is a high school action comedy centered on Yoon Ga Min (played by Hwang Min Hyun), a student who dreams of excelling academically but is only gifted in fighting. In a desperate attempt to survive the chaos of the worst-performing school, he forms a “study group” to protect himself and his friends. The drama, filmed before Hwang’s enlistment, became a breakout success upon its release.
The series not only topped the domestic charts for five consecutive weeks in new paid subscribers on TVING, but also achieved remarkable global traction. It ranked in the Top 5 in 143 countries during its first week on Rakuten Viki, and even claimed the No.1 spot in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Taiwan on streaming platform VIU. Such massive response naturally fueled demand for a second season.

Hwang Min Hyun, currently serving as a social service agent, reportedly received multiple project offers ahead of his return. Yet he appears to have chosen Study Group 2 a continuation of a fan-favorite project that skyrocketed his popularity as his comeback work.
Having debuted in 2012 with NU’EST, Hwang gained wider fame through Wanna One via Produce 101 Season 2 in 2017. He has since built an impressive acting portfolio with roles in Live On, Alchemy of Souls, My Lovely Liar, and Study Group, establishing himself as a rising star in both music and drama. All eyes are now on his next chapter as he returns to the spotlight.
