The Golden Disc Awards has unveiled the “Powerhouse 40”, a prestigious list of 40 figures who have shaped the landscape of Korean pop music history—from legendary soloists to chart-topping K-pop icons like Seo Taiji, BIGBANG, and BTS.
On October 23, the Golden Disc Awards Secretariat revealed the names for the “Golden Disc Powerhouse 40,” selected by 50 industry experts, including producers, songwriters, and music executives. The list reflects a balanced representation of artists and professionals who have left an enduring mark on Korea’s pop culture.

The chosen honorees include music legends such as Kim Gun Mo, Kim Kwang Seok, Kim Min Ki, Kim Wan Sun, Kim Hyun Shik, Kim Hyung Suk, Na Hoon-a, and songwriting powerhouses like Kim Eana and Kim Chang Hwan.
Modern and global K-pop influencers were also recognized, including BTS, BLACKPINK, IU, BoA, Girls’ Generation, H.O.T., god, Psy, and G-Dragon. Acclaimed producers and industry icons like Bang Si Hyuk, Teddy, Yoo Young Jin, Yang Hyun Suk, and Lee Soo Man also made the list.
Notably, singers made up the largest proportion of the list, spanning across generations—from first-gen idols to current global sensations, reflecting the evolution and reach of Korean music.
Seo Taiji was praised as “a cultural president who ignited syndromes in music, fashion, and dance, contributing to Korean music through diverse genres such as rap, rock, and new jack swing.”
BTS, meanwhile, was credited with “placing K-pop at the center of the global music market,” and recognized for their unprecedented achievements: “most consecutive grand prize wins in history and simultaneous domination of both digital and physical categories.”
The 40th Golden Disc Awards ceremony will be held on January 10, 2026, at the Taipei Dome in Taiwan, promising a night to celebrate past legends and present stars who continue to define the pulse of K-pop.
