Known as the “real-life protagonist of The Glory” after bravely exposing her experiences with school bullying, Pyo Ye-rim died on October 10, 2023, at the young age of 27.

At the time, Busanjin Police Station and local fire authorities received a report that someone had fallen into a reservoir in Busanjin-gu, Busan. After a three-hour search, rescue teams found her and rushed her to the hospital, but she was in cardiac arrest and could not be revived.

Pyo, who worked as a hairdresser, had publicly revealed that she endured 12 years of relentless bullying from elementary through high school. Her testimony drew wide attention, especially as the Netflix hit The Glory shed light on the issue of school violence. She later became an activist, joining forces with victims nationwide and campaigning to abolish the statute of limitations for school bullying cases.

Despite her courage, Pyo continued to face immense hardships. She shared that she was suffering from secondary victimization, and at one point revealed that she was sued for defamation by a stalker. On her YouTube channel, she even uploaded videos hinting at despair, which made the news of her death all the more heartbreaking for many.
