The October 3 release of Genie, Make a Wish featured Song Hye Kyo in a striking scene where her smoky eye makeup and chic delivery immediately captivated viewers. This marks the first special appearance in her career, a decision made out of her close friendship with writer Kim Eun Sook.
Song Hye Kyo appeared as “Jiniya,” the ex-girlfriend of the Satan Genie who controls rain. She wowed audiences with her elaborate costume and ethereal presence, earning praise for her goddess-like visuals and flawless portrayal.

On the same day, Song Hye Kyo shared her excitement on Instagram, posting: “‘Genie, Make a Wish’ writer Kim Eun Sook 💕” alongside a still cut of Suzy from the drama, tagging Suzy’s account in support. She also uploaded the drama’s global poster, tagging both Suzy and Ahn Eun Jin with the caption, “Finally today,” expressing her anticipation for the release.

Song Hye Kyo’s cameo highlights her long-standing partnership with Kim Eun Sook, having previously collaborated on hit dramas Descendants of the Sun (KBS 2TV) and The Glory (Netflix). Fans are also intrigued by the budding friendship between Song Hye Kyo and Suzy, who are 13 years apart in age, sparked by this special appearance.
Genie, Make a Wish follows the story of Genie (Kim Woo Bin), a lamp spirit who awakens after a thousand years, and Kayoung (Suzy), a woman incapable of feeling emotions. Together, they navigate three wishes in a “stress-free” fantasy romance. The drama is Kim Eun Sook’s highly anticipated follow-up to The Glory. Suzy stars as Kayoung, the lamp’s eccentric and beautiful new owner, while Ahn Eun Jin plays Mijoo, a mysterious woman who moves to Cheongpung Village for a rural retreat.
The series’ surprise cameos have become a hot topic among viewers, adding an extra layer of charm to the story while complementing the performances of the main cast.
Meanwhile, Song Hye Kyo is preparing for her next project, Show Business (working title), written by acclaimed screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung, to be released on Netflix.
