Netflix officially releases screenwriter Kim Eun Sook’s much-anticipated new drama Genie, Make a Wish today (October 3), perfectly timed for the Chuseok holiday weekend. Known for creating global hits like Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, Mr. Sunshine, and The Glory, Kim returns with a fantasy romantic comedy about a lamp genie who has been asleep for a thousand years and a woman incapable of feeling emotions, with the story unfolding around three life-changing wishes.
Kim Woo Bin stars as Genie, a devilish spirit who grants wishes while leading humans to ruin, until he meets Ga Young (played by Suzy), an emotionless woman who remains indifferent even when offered free wishes. Their unusual dynamic takes a dramatic turn when Ga Young challenges Genie to a “best-of-five battle,” wagering her life and wishes on whether humans are destined to fall into corruption. The drama promises a blend of humor, passion, and suspense, as the pair’s combative relationship evolves into romance, further complicated by the reappearance of an angel of death, Su Hyun (Noh Sang Hyun), after a thousand years.

At the press conference held in Seoul on September 29, the cast shared their experiences. Kim Woo Bin praised the strong script and spoke about the complexities of playing a character who is simultaneously humorous, cruel, scary, and endearing. Suzy, working with Kim Eun Sook for the first time, described her role as both challenging and refreshing, as she portrayed a woman with antisocial personality disorder yet raised with strict morals.
Reuniting nine years after their hit drama Uncontrollably Fond, Kim Woo Bin and Suzy both expressed how natural and enjoyable it felt to work together again, with Suzy noting their improved chemistry in a genre that relies heavily on witty exchanges.

Noh Sang Hyun, who plays the mysterious angel Su Hyun, highlighted the show’s originality and reflected on the large-scale fantasy action sequences he filmed alongside Kim Woo Bin.
Kim Eun Sook emphasized that the series centers on the diverse wishes of characters who encounter Genie and how these wishes ultimately connect to a deeper, emotional story. With its blend of fantasy, romance, and comedy, Genie, Make a Wish is expected to capture audiences worldwide.
The drama is released globally on Netflix today (October 3).
