Kim Jun-seo, best known as the youngest member of WEi and often dubbed part of the “Kim Yo-han Group,” has officially debuted for the third time. On Mnet’s Boys II Planet finale, broadcast on September 25, Kim clinched the final spot in the debut lineup, ranking 8th overall.

Kim first entered the spotlight in 2019 through MBC’s Under Nineteen, where he finished 9th and debuted with 1THE9. Following the group’s disbandment, he re-debuted in October 2020 with WEi. Earlier this year, he expanded his global recognition by starring in the BL drama Secret Relationships. With Boys II Planet, he has now achieved the rare milestone of a third debut.

During the finale, the production team revealed the new group’s name: ALPHA DRIVE ONE (abbreviated as ALD1), explaining that it symbolizes the “catharsis created by K-pop’s momentum.”

The last seat in the debut lineup came down to three contestants: Chuei Li-yu, VERIVERY’s Kangmin (Yoo Kang-min), and Kim Jun-seo. In the end, the coveted 8th spot went to Kim. He confessed, “When most of the names had already been called, I honestly thought it was over for me. I feel so sorry for even having that fleeting thought because the Star Creators who supported me deserved better. I won’t give up because of them.”

He continued, “This challenge was terrifying, and at times the fear outweighed the excitement. But the fans’ kindness gave me so much strength. Even if I hadn’t made it, I was ready to be happy because of their love. Now that I’ve received the gift of debut, I sincerely thank you.” Kim also expressed heartfelt gratitude to his parents, who traveled from Ulsan to watch the finale.

Meanwhile, Kangmin placed 9th, narrowly missing the lineup. Despite the disappointment, he warmly congratulated Kim Jun-seo, acknowledging his struggles: “I know how hard it was for him, so I’m truly happy for him. Every contestant gave their all, and I’m grateful for every moment on stage. Even though I didn’t debut, I’ll keep pushing forward.” His emotional farewell moved both fans and fellow trainees.

With Kim Jun-seo rounding out the eight-member debut group, ALPHA DRIVE ONE is set to begin its journey, carrying the expectations of fans who closely followed the intense survival competition.
