Veteran actor Han Suk Kyu made a powerful return to television with Shin’s Project, tvN’s newest Monday-Tuesday drama, achieving the network’s highest premiere ratings of the year in this slot.
Premiering on September 15, the drama follows Mr. Shin (Han Suk Kyu), a former top-class negotiator who now runs a fried chicken restaurant and uses his mysterious skills to navigate tricky situations. The first episode wasted no time in showing his skills, as he calmly persuaded a man attempting self-immolation before being drawn into a conflict between local seafood merchants and a broadcasting station.
Teaming up with rookie judge Jo Philip (Bae Hyun Sung), Mr. Shin soon uncovered that the dispute was tied to shady real estate deals and a resort construction project. His fearless negotiation tactics, combined with sharp wit and unexpected motorbike stunts, highlighted both his charisma and his ability to outmaneuver powerful adversaries. The episode ended with a tense cliffhanger when Mr. Shin and Jo Philip narrowly escaped a staged accident, cementing his image as a negotiation hero unlike any other.

The premiere delivered excitement through a mix of everyday charm at the chicken restaurant and thrilling negotiation showdowns. Han Suk Kyu’s seamless transition between humor and commanding intensity brought catharsis in every scene. His chemistry with co-stars Bae Hyun Sung and Lee Re, along with director Shin Kyung Soo’s dynamic direction, added depth and energy.

According to Nielsen Korea (paid platforms), episode one scored an average rating of 6.5% in the Seoul metropolitan area (peaking at 7.9%) and 5.9% nationwide (peaking at 7.3%), making it the strongest Monday-Tuesday drama debut for tvN in 2025 so far. Viewers are eager to see how Mr. Shin will continue to dismantle corruption and deliver justice in episodes ahead.
