On the September 14 broadcast of SBS’s My Little Old Boy, behind-the-scenes details of Kim Jong Kook’s wedding were discussed. Cha Tae Hyun shared that despite being one of Kim Jong Kook’s longtime best friends, he learned about the marriage during a group chat on the very day of the Running Man filming. He recalled noticing something unusual when Jong Kook suddenly video-called their group that morning, asking if he was free at a certain time. “That’s when I realized—‘You’re getting married, aren’t you?’—and it gave me chills,” Cha Tae Hyun said.
Despite not knowing beforehand, Cha Tae Hyun emphasized he had no hard feelings. “It wasn’t about when or how he told us. What mattered was that he was getting married. I didn’t even ask who the bride was. I just thought it was great news.” He also revealed that in the past, he had jokingly scolded Jong Kook on-air for being too frugal, even calling his mother while drunk to tease that his habits might stop him from ever getting married.

MC Seo Jang Hoon added that he, too, was only informed a few hours before the official announcement. “Jong Kook called me and said, ‘I’m getting married. The news will be out after Running Man, so just letting you know.’ I was shocked,” he admitted.
Even Yoo Jae Suk, who ended up hosting the wedding, only found out at the last minute. He explained, “I thought Jong Kook was asking me to help with his 30th anniversary concert. But he suddenly asked me to emcee his wedding! I had to reschedule everything quickly—it’s the first time I’ve been asked to host a wedding so abruptly.”
Kim Jong Kook’s decision to keep his wedding plans secret until just 18 days before the ceremony—even from his Running Man family—has become one of the most talked-about celebrity events of the year. The loyalty of friends like Yoo Jae Suk and Cha Tae Hyun, who adjusted their schedules to support him, has only added to the story’s warmth.
