On September 14, the drama’s eighth episode showcased the ultimate culinary showdown between master chefs Yeon Ji Young (Im Yoon Ah) and Tang Bailong (Jo Jae Yoon). According to Nielsen Korea, the episode recorded an average of 15.8% in the Seoul metropolitan area with a peak of 18.1%, while nationwide figures reached 15.4% with a peak of 17.4% a new all-time high that placed it first across all channels in its timeslot.
The episode’s highlight came with a dazzling cooking duel that blended tradition with innovation. Ji Young impressed with a fusion of Korean galbi-jjim (Braised Short Ribs) and French beef bourguignon, stunning King Yi Heon (Lee Chae Min) and Ming eunuch Yu Kun (Kim Hyung Mook). Meanwhile, Ya Feixiu (Moon Seung Yoo) introduced a bold new seasoning, rayu, that added intensity to her dish. In contrast, KBS2’s fantasy action drama Twelve, once highly anticipated, quietly ended on the same night with just 2.4% viewership, marking its lowest rating yet. Inspired by the Eastern zodiac, the show followed twelve guardian angels disguised as humans battling dark forces. While its premiere reached 8.1%, criticism of its uneven directing and scattered narrative caused viewers to turn away, leading to a disappointing finale. Meanwhile, JTBC’s A Hundred Memories recorded 3.6% on the same evening.
