Before his sudden death, Chinese actor Yu Menglong (also known as Alan Yu) remained dedicated to his craft, appearing at events, brand livestreams, and wrapping up a drama just months ago.
On the evening of September 11, Yu’s studio confirmed the heartbreaking news: “We are deeply saddened to inform everyone that our beloved Menglong has passed away on September 11. After investigation, police have ruled out foul play. May the departed rest in peace, and may those who remain find strength.”
Just weeks earlier, Yu had been actively updating fans with photos and posts. His last social media upload was on August 29, following earlier updates on August 18 and during his August 13 flight from Shanghai to Beijing.
According to reports, Yu was with friends on the night of September 10. Around 2 a.m. on September 11, he returned to his room and locked the door. By 6 a.m., when his friends couldn’t find him, they began searching. Soon after, his body was discovered at the foot of a Beijing apartment building, with authorities confirming he had fallen from a high floor.
Despite the tragic circumstances, colleagues and friends remembered Yu for his warmth, kindness, and professionalism. Actress Song Yanfei and actor Zhang Yunlong, among others, expressed their shock and grief. Fellow actor Liu Ruilin, who had known him for a decade, wrote: “Even if we didn’t meet often, every time I saw you, it felt like a gentle spring breeze. Menglong, rest in peace.”
Meanwhile, actor Gao Taiyu added: “Your smile will forever remain in my memory.”
Yu, born in 1988, began acting in 2011 and rose to fame with his breakout role as Prince Han in the 2015 web drama Go Princess Go. He later starred in hits such as Eternal Love and The Legend of White Snake. Most recently, he filmed a project which wrapped three months ago.
Even in July, Yu appeared cheerful and energetic while recording a program in Anhui. Tragically, he passed away only months after celebrating his 37th birthday on June 15. His sudden departure leaves behind unfulfilled plans and a void in Chinese entertainment.
