On the September 11 broadcast of KBS2’s Problem Child in House, veteran actor Park Young-gyu appeared as a guest and shared behind-the-scenes stories from the legendary sitcom Soonpoong Clinic. Playing “Midal’s father” on the show, Park enjoyed massive popularity alongside Kim Sung-eun when the series first aired in 1998.

Born in 1991, Kim debuted at just 8 years old with Soonpoong Clinic, instantly captivating audiences nationwide. Park recalled her maturity despite her young age, explaining, “Even when we woke her from naps during late-night shoots, she never complained. She’d immediately fix her appearance and return to filming.” He added that Kim showed remarkable professionalism, never discouraged by mistakes, instead saying, “Let’s go again.”

Park then revealed a surprising exchange: “I jokingly asked her, ‘Midal, how much do you make?’ She looked at me and replied, ‘I bought a 32-pyeong apartment and I have ₩300 million in cash.’ Even at that age, she had already given her parents a lifetime’s worth of devotion.”

Kim Sung-eun, often remembered as the “eternal Midal,” surprised fans in June last year when she announced her marriage. Later, in December last year, she candidly confessed on MBN’s Dongchimi that much of the money she earned as a child was lost due to her father’s business failures and fraud. Today, she continues her acting career on the theater stage.

Meanwhile, Soonpoong Clinic, which ran from 1998 to 2000, will reunite its cast for a special Chuseok broadcast on tvN STORY titled “Who Ordered Coffee? Soonpoong Family”. Airing on October 9–10, the special will feature nostalgic stories, behind-the-scenes moments, and updates from the cast. The teaser even hinted at a possible appearance by Song Hye-kyo, sparking excitement among longtime fans.
