According to industry sources on September 1 (KST), preparations for Doctor Cha Season 2 are now underway. The original drama, which aired in 2023, told the story of Cha Jung-sook, a woman who transformed from a housewife of 20 years into a first-year medical resident. Her journey—marked by resilience against life’s harsh realities, a domineering husband, and her struggle to rediscover her own purpose—struck a deep chord with viewers. The series became a nationwide phenomenon, achieving ratings as high as 18.5% despite a challenging TV landscape.

Now, two years after its finale, the beloved cast returns to lead the new chapter. Uhm Jung-hwa will once again play Cha Jung-sook, the resilient wife-turned-doctor, while Kim Byung-chul reprises his role as Seo In-ho, her husband and a colorectal surgery department chief who works at the same hospital. The two actors showcased both heartfelt melodrama and light-hearted comedic chemistry in Season 1, a dynamic that fans can look forward to again in the upgraded new season.

After the drama ended, Uhm Jung-hwa revealed in an interview that she was open to returning, saying, “I really want to do Season 2. In-ho didn’t remarry, and with Jung-sook moving to the countryside for medical work, I felt like there was more to explore.” Kim Byung-chul also noted, “The writer is so fresh and creative, I believe Season 2 could definitely happen.”
