On August 22, renowned Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Jing shared a video reflecting on Chow’s personal life, stating:  “There is no doubt that Stephen Chow and Luo Huijuan once loved each other very deeply.” According to Wong, Luo longed for marriage at the peak of their relationship, but Chow who was then rapidly rising in fame was too focused on his career to settle down.

“At that time, Stephen was climbing higher every day. No one knew what level he would reach, and he himself only wanted to expand his career. Marriage wasn’t in his mind, and that’s why they missed their chance,” Wong explained. The pair first met in the 1980s as colleagues at Hong Kong broadcaster TVB. Luo appeared on the children’s program 430 Shuttle, where Chow was also a host. Their friendship gradually blossomed into a relationship during their early years in the industry.

Back then, Chow was still a little-known actor, while Luo was seen as sweet, promising, and on the rise. Reports noted that Luo wholeheartedly supported Chow financially and emotionally even giving up better career opportunities to stay by his side.

However, as time passed, their paths diverged. Chow’s career skyrocketed, turning him into the “King of Comedy” and one of Hong Kong’s most bankable stars, while Luo’s career remained relatively quiet. They eventually separated in the early 1990s.

Luo later left the entertainment industry, married a Singaporean businessman in 1999, and divorced three years later. She moved to Shanghai, living a low-profile life until she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2002. Despite her illness, she maintained optimism, once saying she had “no regrets.” Luo passed away in 2012 at the age of 48.

After her death, Stephen Chow rarely spoke about their relationship but once admitted: “She was a good woman, someone very memorable.” In another interview, he reflected: “I was just unlucky. If I could do it over, I wouldn’t have been so busy.” As recently as 2023, during a fan Q&A on Instagram, Chow confirmed he still thought about her, responding simply: “Yes.”
