On August 21, aespa’s Karina sat down with Harper’s Bazaar Korea on YouTube for a Q&A video titled “Karina’s Encyclopedia of Becoming a K-pop Icon.” In the candid session, she opened up about her most memorable stages, vocal habits, and even her growing interest in acting.
When asked about the moment she felt most powerful on stage, Karina confidently chose aespa’s debut stage, saying, “ There are two, but the first is our debut. I recently met my family, and my dad said watching that performance was emotional. He even asked, ‘Why is she filled with so much fierceness?’ When I look back, all of us were so full of intensity, and I think it looked beautiful.”
Her second pick was her solo performance at Tokyo Dome, where she performed “UP” for the first time. “It was the first time I felt so deeply involved with the dancers and staff. We all worked hard together, and it became such a precious stage for me,” she reflected.
When asked to choose just one, Karina firmly stated, “It has to be the debut stage, because that day made me who I am today.”
She also revealed her unusual way of preparing for live performances: “I don’t really know how to warm up my voice, so I just talk a lot with staff members, letting my thoughts flow. And when I feel nervous or stiff, I always run around in all directions. That helps my energy and blood circulation, and I feel more active.”
Karina further opened up about her curiosity toward acting. “When filming music videos or commercials, I realized I end up acting more than expected. When I shot a department store ad, it felt like my first real acting experience. With so many people helping me, it was fun and fascinating, and it made me want to learn acting properly,” she shared.
With her blend of charisma, honesty, and curiosity, Karina continues to inspire fans not only with her performances but also with her willingness to explore new artistic challenges.
