On August 13, Lee Kwang Soo appeared alongside Yoo Jae Suk, Ji Suk Jin, and Yang Se Chan on the YouTube show “Pinggyego”. During the conversation, Yoo Jae Suk recalled his early commercial work, revealing that he once shot a beer commercial in Australia for ₩5 million despite being unable to drink alcohol. Ji Suk Jin and Yang Se Chan added that their first paychecks were ₩110,000 and ₩200,000, respectively.
Lee Kwang Soo then admitted that he earned ₩3 million from a commercial at the start of his career but revealed shocking details about his agency contract. “I signed with the wrong company and ended up giving almost all of it to them. I didn’t make any profit and never received any settlement, not even for ‘High Kick Through the Roof’, ” he confessed.
Surprised, Yoo Jae Suk commented, “That kind of thing happened a lot back then. There wasn’t YouTube or resources to check contracts like there are now.”
Lee explained that during those days, he sometimes had to ask his mother for ₩10,000 or ₩50,000 just to get by. “I even went to get clothing sponsorships myself, rode the bus everywhere, and if I missed the last bus, I waited for the first one in the morning. I didn’t even have a manager. There weren’t many auditions, so ‘High Kick’ was the only one I did and I got in,” he said.
Yoo Jae Suk jokingly added that Lee’s story was worthy of an exposé on “PD Note”. He then encouraged Lee about his growing career after winning Best Supporting Actor at the Blue Dragon Awards, saying, “Now all that’s left is the Best Actor award. Lee Byung Hun, Hwang Jung Min—watch out, Kwang Soo is coming.”
