Anime fans have a new reason to mark their calendars. L’etoile de Paris en fleur, an original anime film that blends the creative forces behind One Piece, Code Geass, and Studio Ghibli masterpieces, is officially in the works.
Produced by Arvo Animation, the film will be directed by Goro Taniguchi, best known for the hit series Code Geass and the blockbuster One Piece Film: Red. Character design will be handled by Katsuya Kondo, whose art shaped beloved Studio Ghibli films like Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, and Princess Mononoke. The screenplay comes from Reiko Yoshida, the acclaimed writer behind Violet Evergarden, A Silent Voice, and Blue Period.

The only revealed character so far is Fujiko, voiced by Ami Toma (Lonely Castle in the Mirror). The film is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on March 13, 2026, though there is no confirmed international release date yet.
Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century Paris, the plot follows Fujiko, an aspiring painter, and Chizuru, an aspiring ballerina. The two young women meet by chance, forming a deep bond as they pursue their dreams despite the hardships of life.
The film’s tagline — “I want to blossom in this city” — encapsulates its central message: hope, resilience, and the courage to chase one’s aspirations.
Character designer Katsuya Kondo shared that the project began in May 2018, when producer Kalki Rajeev first approached him. Initially, Kondo declined the offer but was eventually moved by Rajeev’s passion. What started as a request for simple conceptual sketches soon evolved into a full collection of original drawings for the film.
Director Taniguchi also revealed that production continued despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, praising the unwavering dedication of the creative team.
As of now, there is no teaser or trailer for L’etoile de Paris en fleur. Fans can look forward to future updates, including the official reveal of Chizuru and possibly more cast members.
With its stunning lineup of creators and an emotionally rich story set in the romantic streets of Paris, this film is already shaping up to be one of 2026’s most anticipated anime releases.
