On July 28, during an interview with SPOTV News following the conclusion of her latest drama S Line, Arin shared her artistic ambitions and fearless mindset. The interview, held at Yeouido Post Tower in Seoul, highlighted a new side of the idol-turned-actress, one willing to transform completely for her craft. “If a role demands it, I’d even consider shaving my head,” Arin said with determination, underlining her commitment to breaking boundaries and evolving as an actress.
In S Line, a provocative Wavve original fantasy thriller, Arin portrayed Hyun Heup, a reserved girl with the unique ability to see “S Lines”—mysterious red lines that connect people who’ve had sexual relationships. Her subdued performance, enhanced by a minimalist appearance and short hairstyle, marked a departure from her idol image and signaled her readiness for more daring projects.
Arin revealed this was her first taste of a bold, boundary-pushing role—and it’s only whetted her appetite for more. “I love watching action-packed works. They’re thrilling, and I want to try something cool and intense like that one day,” she said, citing The Thieves, New World, and The Outlaws as inspirations.
She also named veteran actress Kim Hye-soo as a role model, expressing admiration for her depth and range. “There are so many great seniors I’d love to work with. Honestly, they’re in a different league, but if the chance comes, I’ll take it,” Arin said humbly.
Reflecting on her versatility built through years with Oh My Girl, she added, “We took on many different concepts as a group, and that helped me learn to adapt and transform. I want to keep doing that in acting. Whether it’s changing my hair, makeup, or even shaving my head—I’m open to it all.”
Since her acting debut in 2020’s The World of My 17, Arin has steadily built a varied portfolio with roles in Alchemy of Souls, Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow, and the short drama Summer, Love Machine Blues. However, it’s her bold performance in S Line that has truly marked a turning point.
